What is Perpetual Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament

monstranceresize Perpetual Adoration of the Most Blessed Sacrament is the Adoration of Jesus Christ present in the Holy Eucharist.  The Eucharist is displayed in a special holder called a Monstrance.  The word monstrance comes from the Latin word "monstrare" which means "to show".  The consecrated host is exposed behind a small glass case within the monstrance so that visitors to the Chapel of Perpetual Adoration may see the Lord in his Real Presence.  A visitor to the chapel is called an "adorer" because they come to adore the Lord Jesus in his body, blood, soul and divinity.  The experience of adoration is an intimate experience where you and the Lord gaze at one another in love.

Within the chapel there are certain rules which are observed to maintain the proper prayer of adoration.  The chapel maintains the rule of "grand silence" which is a monastic practice.  There are no communal prayers celebrated within the chapel unless scheduled by the Pastor and each person prays in silence.  The prayer of adoration is "the prayer of angels" who in silence adore the Lord day and night.

Upon entering the Perpetual Adoration Chapel of Jesus Our Eternal Priest, one is required to sign in using the books located on the back table.  There are three books on the back table.  One book is for petitions.  In it you may write down the things you are praying for and often times other people will also take your intentions with them in prayer.  The second book is the "sign-in" book.  In the center of the book, you will see a schedule where "committed adorers" sign in.  If you are a visitor, there is a tab located in the back of the book so that you may sign in.  All visitors to the chapel are required to sign in.  The third book is called the "Favors Granted" book.  In it you will see so many testimonies of prayers that have been answered by God and the thankful words of devoted adorers.

In the back of the chapel you will find bookshelves which contain spiritual reading material to enhance your prayer and meditation.  There you will find the sacred scriptures of the Bible, the writings of Saints and various prayer books to assist your growth and formation as a Catholic.  The books on the shelves are periodically reviewed by the Pastor and you will find labels on the books that ask you not to remove the books from the Adoration Chapel.  Please do not add books to the shelves since they must go through a review process before being made available to the faithful who visit the Adoration Chapel.

Within the Adoration Chapel, you will find various items to enhance your prayer and devotion including:  Holy Water Fonts at each entrance, the Stations of the Cross, the Infant of Prague, the Statues of Mary and Joseph and a reliquary located in the front niche of the altar.

I hope this information is helpful.  Please know that if you need more information about the Adoration Chapel or if you need help in becoming an adorer, please fill out the Invitation to Become and Adorer and one of the leaders will contact you shortly.  May God bless you and assist you in the call to holiness.
