Confirmation

pentecostConfirmation is one of the Sacraments of Initiation; it completes the grace of Baptism by a special outpouring of the gifts of the Holy Spirit, which seal or confirm the baptized in union with Christ and equip them for worship and apostolic life in the Church.

Requirements for Reception of Confirmation

Under normal circumstances, candidates for Confirmation, like the other sacraments, must meet certain conditions.  Confirmands must:

  • Take two years of classes for formation as required by the Bishop of the Diocese of Raleigh
  • Be in the state of grace (IE: know how to and make use of the Sacrament of Reconciliation/Confession)
  • Practice your Faith and consistently attend the weekend Mass
  • Attend the Confirmation Retreat
  • Complete at least 10 hours of Service and submit the signed Service Hours Form here.
  • Write a letter to the Pastor requesting the Sacrament of Confirmation
  • Choose a name of a Saint to take as your Patron or Patroness
  • Choose an approved Sponsor and have them submit the Form for Sponsor found here.

12 Fruits of the Holy Spirit are - Charity, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Generosity, Gentleness,Faithfulness, Modesty, Self Control and Chastity

Effects of the Holy Spirit

  • Baptismal grace is increased and deepened
  • An indelible mark is imprinted on the soul (like Baptism)
  • The Confirmand is rooted more deeply as a "child of God"
  • The Confirmand is rooted more deeply to Christ
  • The gifts of the Holy Spirit increase
  • The Confirmand's bond with the Church is perfected
  • Special grace is given to to the Confirmand to spread and defend the faith by word and deed as true witnesses
  • The Confirmand is enabled to confess Christ boldly and never be ashamed of the Cross

Minister of the Sacrament The ordinary minister of the sacrament of confirmation is the Bishop, the head of the local church.
